Poetry 101, Day 7: Beloved

Something about the very word “beloved” causes a frisson in us. Out of the people that matter to you, who matters the most? Whom do you love, or whom have you loved more than anyone else? What does the word “beloved” summon up in your imagination? What songs, poems, stories, movies spring to mind? Who is your beloved?

Today, write a poem celebrating your beloved. It does not have to be a specific person — you could address an imaginary beloved from the future who’s waiting for you. You could take on the persona of a well-known mythological or historic character and address her or his beloved in your poem. You could create a new type of lover and beloved.

BELOVED

The heart of my soul are you
I love you in all that I do
It’s there in my gaze
Expressed in my ways
A love that is truer than true

My heart skips a beat when you’re near
From you I have nothing to fear
A life I will spend
With you til the end
Filled with laughter and loving and care

For you are my darling beloved
A blessing I somehow discovered
With praise everyday
Once more I will say
For you are my darling beloved!

    • Thanks Mandi, right now my poems need to rhyme, it’s a “thing” with me, I’m not sure how to write one that doesn’t…guess I should practice that! Thanks for stopping by…looking forward to visiting you! I must go to bed for now though, “see” you tomorrow!! 😊

    • I do too. Hey congrats on the Pats win yesterday. I thought Denver looked pretty good in the 1st half against the Steelers, but they “left it in the locker room” for the second half!

Aw, Denver will probably loose in their 1st play-off game anyway. I know, doesn’t sound like much of a fan, but I’m a realist…

    • Denver definitely left it in the locker room, don’t you wonder what happens…like what happened? You can’t be a realist when it comes to being a fan…you have to believe to the very end that you are going to win!!! You just have to!! 🙂

    • Even as a former athlete in school I learned there comes a time on certain days and in certain games when you know you are going to lose.

Now that doesn’t mean you quit playing the game, but you know even your best effort won’t pull out a victory. The same goes for the fan, Deb.

There are just some circumstances in some games which can’t be overcome. You can root all you want, but when the time ticks off the clock, the game is finished. But it may have been “over” long before that time ran out.

      Sorry if you disagree…

You put the loss behind you and start preparing for the next week!

    • Maybe it’s because Brady has pulled it out so many times in the final seconds that I believe to the very end that anything is possible…even 3 TD’s with 2 minutes left! HA!! 😉 Besides it’s more fun that way… 🙂

    • Oh I agree with the thrill of that idea. And I’ve certainly seen my share of major upsets. But more often than not, when the “mojo” of the game has changed, (like the broncos Sunday), and the time just runs out the possibilities, one has got to just “chalk it up” and enjoy the fun they did have during the game…

    • You’re the one who said fan came from fanatic… 😉

      Liked by 1 person

    • Yes I did, and yes it does come from the word. But come on now, even a “fanatic” has to become a realist at some point…we all do!

I’m as crazy as many people when it comes to hoping about some things, but I also see the reality of a situation too. We all have to or we get hurt and disappointed far too often.

    • Or we believe that everything happens for a reason so rather than being hurt by something or disappointed, believe that something better is in store!!! 😉

    • I do believe that all things happen according to God’s will. I further believe that God always works things out for the good of those who follow Him.

But that doesn’t remove all bad things from happening in our lives. As you say, one thing may fail because something better may be coming…

Guess that’s a reason to remain positive about things in life, huh!

      🙂

    • Absolutely, we won’t always understand why things happen we have to believe and trust in God! 😊

    • This is so true! We can’t always know the mind of the Lord, and even if He took the time to tell us His every move, we probably couldn’t understand it all with human minds.

    • There’s so much we will learn when we pass on to him, how exciting is that?!

      Liked by 1 person

    • It will be a new and exciting time for us all! To even be in His presence all of the time would be unimaginable.

    • I know! It will be fabulous…

    • Oh, I forgot to say what happened in the locker room with Denver. The real change took place with the adjustments the Steelers made in THEIR locker room!

Their coaches revamped the entire defensive game plan with tighter coverage on receivers for one thing. Then they got some pressure on Ostwieler, (he drops back so far into the pocket), and those two things alone took away the passing game.

There was obviously more but they did a better job than Denver of correcting problems…

  7. Deb!
I am browsing your poems fast, I do not know how I missed them.
I think I was ill informed or I might have not observed, I am really very sorry about that.
I did go about this and the other ones.
I am tied up with something, I shall revert back on these.
Till then read mine why you.
