See a penny pick it up…all day long you’ll have good luck!!  Right?  How about, you should only pick it up if it’s heads-up, have you heard that too?  Well as it turns out The Penny means a whole lot more.

Tuesday while I was at the post office I saw a penny on the ground and it was heads-up.  Whenever I see a penny on the ground I think of the scene from the movie Grease when Jan finds the penny and says,

See a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck.

Those words always go through my head, in the tone that she says them too.  What’s interesting is, I have been thinking of writing a post about The Penny and all the various quotes about pennies, for a couple of weeks.  As many of you know, last Sunday I posted my last Our Daily Grateful Post, well 2 days later I found the penny.  Why is that interesting you ask, you did ask didn’t you?  Well you know me…I looked up its symbolism and here’s what I found:

“Consider the penny as a symbol of beginnings as it holds the vibration of number One.

The meaning of One primarily deals with strong will, positivity, pure energy.  The number One reflects new beginnings, and purity. The symbolic meaning of the penny (number One) is further clarified when we understand that One represents both kinds of action, physical and mental.

This combined with the One’s urgency for new beginnings, we intuit number One to mean it is time to exert our natural forces, take action, and start a new venture. Numeral One gives us encouragement that our actions will be rewarded in kind.

Appropriate to the theme of new beginnings, we see Abraham Lincoln depicted on this currency.  This is symbolic of founding fathers concept, and deals with foundational thoughts & constructs.  Pulled more deeply in the meaning, we can say that seeing pennies (particularly heads-up) is a message for us to re-evaluate our founding beliefs.  We may ask ourselves what core beliefs do we have, and are they serving us appropriately?

Copper also holds a symbolic resonance (at least when they were primarily made of copper prior to 1982) with the astrological signs of Sagittarius and Taurus – you can investigate the attributes of these signs for further symbolism here.

Copper is also considered a solar emblem, and corresponds with the radiant features of the sun.  This combined with a myriad of other meanings, the symbolic meaning of the penny deals with bright ideas, fresh perspectives, and incorporating these new thoughts with our existing framework.  By combining the old with the new we find our lives expanded and new directions to our path.”

Isn’t that so cool!!

I know it’s also said that pennies are from loved ones in heaven, so maybe one of my loved ones placed it there, right outside my car door, to find.  Funny I did not see it when I got out of my car, it was when I was coming back to my car that I noticed it.  I would have had to practically step on it to get into my car, guess they wanted to be sure I found it.  Thank you!

This is the penny I found, heads-up

I was having withdrawals all week long, having gone cold turkey from my daily posts.  What I missed most was talking with you, I missed you so much!!

I did enjoy having my evenings free to relax, practice my piano and catch up on your posts.

After reading this symbolism of the penny, it gave me goosebumps and also reassured me that I have made the right decision, that it is time to move forward with my newest adventures.  One of those is learning to play my piano so I can create music to the songs I write and further my music career with Miri (Miriam Blaker of Out an’ About) and our CD.

I’m practicing a song I wrote originally title “Dear Universe”, now called “All is Well”, also in the background is where I sit to watch the birds eat & squirrels play.

Life’s all about making decisions, isn’t it?  Wondering if we make the right ones, looking for the right answer, how will we know for sure?

The next time you see a penny maybe the Universe, or a loved one, is sending you a message of reassurance!!  Are you about to embark on a new adventure, turning down a new path, trying to make a decision about something?  Remember this, there are no wrong paths.  We are meant to go where we go.

Penny for your thoughts?!  😉

With love and appreciation,

  1. My Mum always said, “See a penny pick it up all day you’ll have good luck” she also said, “Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves. 😀💜 Have a great week. 💜

  2. Very interesting information on pennies! I love all the quotes. I always pick up pennies when I see them. I hope you have been having a wonderful weekend! We woke up this morning with a dusting of snow on the ground. I guess we are finally having winter. LOL

  3. Willow’s quote is a popular one in England and Australia. Australia took its pennies and two-cent pieces out of circulation in 1992. Canada took its pennies out of circulation in 2013.

    • Huh, I did not know that about being taken out of circulation. I wonder if we will someday soon. I always wondered what penny wise, pound foolish meant, til now. I always thought it meant pound as in weight….and that it meant you worry over the little things instead of the big things….now I know it meant the British pound…LOL!!

  4. I had an emotional couple of days and my dear deceased
Friend came into the conversation. The person I was speaking to reminded me that if she were still alive, she would not want me to feel guilt or pain. It was a good conversation. I went to the park soon after and I parked in a spot, decided to pull out and back in. I backed in and got out to commence walking. I looked down and there on the ground were some coins. I picked them all up and in total it was .17 cents. Hailey died on the 17th of December. I choose to believe she was there telling me to be happy and let her go. I can’t remember if the pennies were heads up but I took them both. A dime, nickel and 2 pennies. And you know, an hour after I started my walk, I returned to my car and I saw an old friend/acquaintance from high school. I walked up to him and we spoke for a few minutes. We talked about a tournament/fund raiser for a foundation in memory of another friend of ours who has died. Two of my friends who are not here anymore. But they showed up today.

    • Wow that was definitely Hayley saying hello to you and to be happy, that she is fine and she wants you to be too! I don’t pay much heed to the heads up or heads down either, it’s whatever you want to believe that matters. What an amazing day for you. I hope that it has brought you some comfort, they would want it to. Sorry for your losses Gretch, but now keep this good memory of how Hayley came to say hello, be happy, I’m fine and I want you to be too!! Thanks for sharing these emotional yet magical moments. ❤ xo

    • Thank you 💕 yes, it was a strong reminder that she is hanging around and she wants me to let those feelings go. They are invalid bc she is at peace. I see that. 🙏

  5. “In for a penny, in for a pound”. I remember that one but to be honest I’m not really sure what it means. Anyway, where to start with this. Firstly, I’m writing through a combination of tears and feelings of goosebumps. Finding that penny was definitely a turning point for you, just at this time when you’re making decisions and new ventures are on the horizon. I love it! So in sync with the Universe as always. All is well isn’t it?
The other day at mum’s place, as I was clearing one of her drawers I found two pennies. Were they heads up, I can’t remember. I also found a few other things that gave me major goosebumps.
I loved this post Deb and I always love the way you look into the meanings and interpretations of things. Maybe that should be your specialty/area of expertise. Hmmm. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday as I begun a new week here. Big hugs xo 🙂💕

    • Well when I would hear the quotes that mentioned penny & pound I always thought the pound meant weight, like American standard…not pound as in currency…ha!! Maybe it means you’re all in!
Wasn’t that goosebumpy…when I looked it up I though wow…I am definitely going to do more symbolism/signs what does it mean posts… I love learning what things mean and I hope others love reading and learning it too. Heads up or down I think they are a good sign either way…that’s what I believe and I’m gonna stick to it!!
While I was looking for the video clip from the Grease movie I found some videos about pennies and some being worth a fortune. I have a ceramic vase that I toss change in, I’m now going to pull out all my pennies and review with this video to see if I have any pennies that are worth a fortune! Can you imagine if I do and that’s what the Universe was really telling me…go check your pennies!!! I love it! Well I’m off to make my supper now as you are probably cleaning up from breakfast! Enjoy your Monday as I enjoy my Sunday…talk soon!! Big Penny Hugs xo ❤ 🙂

  11. What a lovely surprise to read your post this morning. My penny quote was one I used to hear my mum say regularly: “Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves”….
As for “Pennies from heaven” – I do believe that’s true and my experience of this came after the death of my mother-in-law last year. We went to the Funeral Directors to make the funeral arrangements and like you, right outside the car door when we returned was a VERY bright penny waiting to be picked up – a little message from above… I’m sure it wasn’t there when I got out of the car…
Enjoy your new beginnings Deb… xx

    • Hi Wendy, yes as I was looking up quotes I did see that one too…
I have had so many people tell me that…she wanted to make sure you didn’t miss it…between being VERY bright and in a spot you couldn’t miss…isn’t it amazing!! I love that kind of stuff. I think I’ll ask them if they could leave me $1000 bills to find…hehe…they have to be lighter than a penny right?? 😉
Thank you so much for your kind words Wendy!! New beginnings are always exciting…xo ❤

  12. I absolutely LOVE this post!!! It’s funny, ive always picked pennies up and never really paid attention if its heads or tails! Just got excited! Haha! I totally think that when we see pennies, coins, feathers, or animals that these are signs from the universe and or our loved ones that have moved on! This post just made my heart full! 💜 I sure do miss your posts, but im also glad that you’re in alignment and happy 🙂 xoxooxxo 💜

    • Awe thanks Bridget….funny thing is tonight when I went out to bring in my bird feeders there was a penny on the ground right in front of the bird bath. I know it wasn’t there this morning as I was looking on the ground right in the area I found it…so either a bird a squirrel or the Universe brought it to me…isn’t that so exciting!! I totally agree with you that pennies, coins, feather etc are signs from our loved ones or the Universe or both. I’m so happy this post touched you so!!
I really miss talking with everybody daily but also happy to have some free time at night…I’m thinking of doing Random Grateful Posts…that way I won’t have to do it daily, just randomly…that works for me!! I wish you a magical week ahead! xoxo ❤

    • That’s amazing about finding another penny!!!! Wow!!!! You are magic!!!! Thank you, Deb! I look forward to your random posts!!! 💜🌻🌷
