~ 2016 Year of the Change, Step 7 ~

As we set out to achieve our goals often times we hit that wall.  I’m never going to accomplish my goal, I can’t do it, what was I thinking, it’s too much.

That wall has another name, DOUBT.

Don’t worry it’s part of the process.  It’s a hurdle that is put in front of you that asks “so how serious are you about accomplishing this goal?”  This is a gut check!  We all go through it, sometimes we don’t exit the other side and other times we do.  If you do come out the other side it’s because you are committed to achieving this goal, if you don’t, it wasn’t as important as you originally thought.

This is actually a wonderful process as it will eliminate for you the goals that, at this time, are not what you are really interested in, which then allows for more time and energy to be focused on the ones you do want to realize.

People often think that they have failed when they leave a goal by the wayside…no no no my friend you are filtering and learning, and learning is always a positive avenue.

So congratulations if you have hit that wall, dropped some goals initially listed, continued with others and perhaps added some new ones!

Evolving is part of the journey in achieving our goals.

Write down in your journal how you are feeling about your goals.  Have you waned in your desire to achieve them or intensified?  Are you reading your statement twice daily?  Does it need updating?  Also note in your journal how you are feeling in general; positive, negative, excited, energetic, and why.

(Side Note:  I have been bogged down with my full-time job which has delayed me in writing Step 7.)  I hope you are traveling in the direction of your goal(s).

Until next time, welcome the wall!!!

~ 2016 Year of the Change, Step 6 ~

  1. Write down on a separate piece of paper the first goal you wish to achieve, be precise.
  2. Set a date by when you will accomplish this goal.
  3. Create a concise plan that will help you reach your goal.
  4. Begin today putting your plan into action.
  5. Read your goal aloud each morning and each night, read it as if you have already achieved it.

Here is an example:

My Goal

Enjoy this step, it’s an important one.

~ 2016 Year of the Change, Step 5 ~

Achieving our goal(s) is accomplished 90% with our mind and 10% with our plan.  We will discuss planning, in more depth, in future posts, but will touch on it briefly today.

Alignment is both a part of our mind and our plan and should begin now.

What do I mean by alignment?  Alignment: an arrangement of groups or forces in relation to one another (Merriam-Webster).  You should align yourself with someone in your inner circle; being of family or friends, and your outer circle; being of someone in the field of your goal.

You want to collaborate with others who will help bring your goal to fruition.

Family/Friend – your Inner Circle Alignment – choose someone who will unconditionally support you in achieving your goal.  Someone you can turn to for encouragement, who believes in you completely.  This way if you become discouraged or doubtful of yourself, your inner circle person can help boost you back up, get you back on track with your goal.  They can also be your sounding board for different ideas you may have.  If you cannot find such a person remember, you always have God, both inside and outside of you!

Outer Circle Alignment – this will be the person or media who will serve you in accomplishing your goal.  For example, if your goal is to become an author, align yourself with a publisher or publishing company or contact your local newspaper to see if they will print your article/story.  The internet is also a place to have your writings published, for example, is your local newspaper online, most are today, contact them and find out what is necessary to be published on their site, ask what kind of articles/stories/poems they are interested in publishing.  These are just a few brief examples and ideas to help launch you in the right direction.

If your goal is to exercise perhaps you want to join a local club, find online courses, buy workout DVDs, local hospitals, senior centers and YMCA’s offer various exercise classes.  If your goal is to learn how to play the piano, find a music store that offers lessons, maybe you know someone who teaches how to play, or perhaps the local schools or colleges are offering classes.

Today’s “assignment” is to list in your journal who you choose to be your inner circle alliance person, inform them of it and explain to them what it means to you.  Also decide what persons, groups, organizations or other media avenues will be your outer circle alliances.  Don’t limit yourself in your list of outer circle alliances, the more choices you have the better.

Once you list your outer circle alliances, start your research to find them and perhaps even reach out to them.

Until next time…journey on!

~ 2016 Year of the Change, Step 4 ~

Did you know that Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times before inventing the light bulb?  Can you imagine if he gave up, I’d be writing this by candlelight!

You have to be prepared to accept failure in order to achieve success.  Just because you don’t succeed right away is no reason to give up, only give up when you no longer believe in your goal or you want to change it.  If you want to change your goal that is perfectly acceptable.  Sometimes we set goals we think we want to accomplish and then after setting out to accomplish them find out we really don’t want that goal after all.  That’s fine, you are not going to know whether a goal is suited to you until you start plotting your course towards it.

The most important thing is your desire.  Do you really, really desire to achieve that goal?  Let’s find out.  Here’s another exercise for you, spend the day imagining that you have achieved your goal.  Perhaps your goal is to be an author, to reach your ideal weight, to sing, to teach, whatever it is, pretend for the day that you have accomplished it.

Note in your journal how your day would be spent.  Would you be writing, clothes shopping, singing, teaching, etc. and also write down how you feel while “living” your goal.  Does it feel right, comfortable, you?  Design the day from start to finish in your journal and live it in your mind for the day, if you can live it in reality, in some manner, for the day even better.  Repeat this for several days, continue to note any changes in how you feel, whether it be more aligned with the goal or maybe not so much.

Get Focused – What is Your Gift?

day3We were all given a gift from God, what is yours?  Find what your gift is and do it well.  Make the time to develop your gift or talent.  Stop waiting for the perfect time, that time is now.  Don’t let yourself intimidate you, dare to take the necessary steps.  Have faith, be bold, dream big and don’t be afraid, “use well what God has given you and you will be given more”.

We each have our own unique gifts and talents to share and we must share them with the world.   Your gift is your own, no one else has your gift nor do you have anyone elses.  Cultivate your gift, nurture it and God will guide you along your journey as long as you are faithful to yourself and invest in you.  Appreciate and value your gift, no matter how small you may think your gift/talent is and start using it today and every day going forward.  You are a phenomenal person and you can do this!

On Page 3 of your journal make a list of what changes your goal(s) will bring you.  What is the essence of your goal?  How will it make you feel?  Will you become more of yourself?  Your list can be of physical things, emotional things, spiritual things, of the senses – sight, sound, touch, smell, etc.

Sincerely give thought to you and your gift and honor yourself as you think about and list what your goal(s) means to you and what you expect from it.

I’ll give you some time with this before we continue our journey to achieving our goals.

Laying the Ground Work – It’s All in Our Attitude and Spirit of Approach toward Our Goals

Print this poster or write down the saying on a piece of paper and post it where you can read it aloud each morning.  It would be super if you could post it near a mirror and recite it as you look at yourself in the mirror.  Repeat this to yourself numerous times throughout the day, every day.

It does not matter how many times you have failed in the past, take possession of your mind and direct it toward the goal(s) you want to achieve.

On Page 1 of your journal you wrote down your goal(s).  On Page 2 write down the saying above and list a few ways that you can contribute back to life, for life giving you what you want.  For example, perhaps you could give of your time, volunteer somewhere, donate clothes, food, toys, blankets for pets at animal shelters, etc.  Whatever you may think of, write them down.

We are a step closer to achieving our goals.

~ 2016 Year of the Change, Step 1 ~

Feel free to join me in my journey into 2016 Year of the Change.

Step 1, keep a journal.  It can be a physical journal or an e-journal, whichever you prefer.  I like the physical journal as I like to hold it, write my thoughts in it and flip back and forth thru the pages as I wish.

journal1On the first page write 2016 Year of the Change.

Followed by I believe in me.  I have faith in me.  I trust me.

Finally list goals that you would like to accomplish.  They can be anything; exercise, learn how to paint, write a book, learn to sing, volunteer, seek a new career.  You can list one or as many as you would like.  Once you’re done, rewrite the list in order of importance to you with the first one being the most important goal you would like to accomplish.

You’re done with Step 1 and on your way to achieving your goals!!  Congratulations!!!
