Ebbs and Flows of Menopause

Since starting menopause a few years ago I find my life, my spirit, my body, my soul and my mind are going through different phases.

QVC_Logo

In Phase One I became an obsessive QVC shopper.  I was not a shopper, I hated going to the Mall, I didn’t watch QVC and I only bought things when necessary…well that was…until a few years ago.  One day, as I was flipping through the tv channels, something caught my attention on QVC and the rest, as they say, is history.  In addition to that, I had lost a lot of weight.  I had quit smoking and was afraid of gaining weight so I started working out, I went from a size medium to an extra small.  I have now moved beyond that phase and am no longer a shopaholic nor am I exercising at the moment.  This leaves me with shelves of clothes, all extra small, that no longer fit me as I am back to being a size medium.  Anybody an extra small?

lawofattraction

Phase Two found me reading, watching, meditating and listening to everything that had to do with creating my own reality, setting goals and thinking about becoming a life coach.  I listened to Louise Hay, Esther Hicks (Abraham), Tony Robbins, Joel Osteen, Oprah and Deepak Chopra, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Napoleon Hill and so many more.  I learned about the Law of Attraction, something I had not heard of before, but soon began practicing.   Here is the definition of The Law of Attraction according to Wikipedia…The law of attraction is the name given to the maxim “like attracts like” which in New Thought philosophy is used to sum up the idea that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts a person brings positive or negative experiences into their life.

This deck of cards is enchantingly beautiful!

I now find myself shifting from Phase Two into Phase Three, where all things spiritual in the manner of Tarot Cards, Horoscope, Reiki, Angels, Guides, and God are calling to me.  I’m drawn to the moon and moon phases, learning about new moons, waxing moons, waning moons, full moons, blue moons and black moons.  I’ve looked up my Rising Sun – Scorpio, my MC (Medium Coeli or Midheaven sign) – Leo.  My sun is Libra, my moon is Aries, and that’s just the zodiac portion of Phase Three.  There’s an enormous amount to learn regarding Tarot and Reiki also and I find it all so fascinating.  When I stop and think about this, I’ve actually been interested in these things my whole life…perhaps I’m being led back to my passion and my new career.

I burn Reiki candles, have purchased crystals, rocks, pendulums and various decks of mystical cards.  I recently purchased the Mystical Wisdom Card Deck, pictured above.  These cards are gorgeous and there is so much going on in each picture, I love them!  Also there are thousands of YouTube channels you can watch for Tarot readings, Horoscope readings, and all sorts of information.

As I look back at these phases it seems to me that I am evolving.  I started with Louise Hay and affirmations and am now listening more to my inner-self, angels and God.  It’s been an enlightening journey, one I look forward to continuing.

For those of you who have meandered (or are meandering) through menopause, do you recall going through different “phases”?  Did your desires and lifestyle continuously evolve into various areas?  There is such a thing as male menopause so men don’t be shy, tell of your experiences too.  If you so choose, please share…I’m curious.

I DON’T HAVE A PASSION ~ IS THAT OKAY?

Since I decided to write a blog and start Our Daily Grateful Post, I have been listening, on YouTube, to all sorts of inspirational videos.  I have listened to Louise Hay, Abraham Hicks, Wayne Dyer, Joel Osteen, Tony Robbins, Napoleon Hill, and the list goes on.  Each talking about how to be successful in life, live your dream, how you attract what you think, be positive and so on.

I often hear the question ‘What is your passion’?  I have given it a lot of thought and I don’t think I have anything that I am passionate about.  I like my blog, I like to write posts, poems and songs, I like to organize things, but am I passionate about any of them, I don’t think so.

So of course now I’m worried.  Uh-oh, I don’t have anything I’m passionate about.  How do I know what I should be doing with my life if I’m not passionate about something?  What is my goal?  Well in all honesty, my goal is to stay home.  I love my home, I have just moved here a little less than two years ago and I absolutely love living here.  I was living on a very busy street, sirens, trucks, motorcycles, cars, dogs barking…you name it and there was a constant sound of something.  Not to mention my house was broken into three times.  Now I live on a very safe, quiet, dead-end street and all I hear are birds, it’s fabulous!

Not long after my move here my job changed drastically.  My assistant retired, her replacement, a wonderful person, has had passionnumerous health issues and has only worked half of the time required, which has been a nightmare for me.  We also took on some new business which ended becoming my responsibility.  It’s been a year and a half since my job became awful!  I hate going to work everyday and with loving my home so much, it makes it even harder to leave each morning.

I have become one big ball of anxiety, day in and day out.  I’ve been trying to start each day in a positive way, ‘something wonderful is going to happen today‘, ‘today’s going to be a great day’, ‘thank you God for your blessings and favors today’ but not long after I arrive at my desk I’m overwhelmed and in tears.  I have to do something.  I’ve been looking online for jobs, but what do I want to do?  Do I want to continue in the same field I’ve been in for 35 years or do I want to find out what my passion is so I can do that and LOVE going to work each day?  Hence my journey to figure out just what my passion is!

After reading that definition, I wonder if maybe I love my job after all!  😉

In all honesty, my passion is to stay home.  I’m tired, I want to rest, I need time off, time to renew and rejuvenate.  Perhaps a year off would be helpful, then maybe I could join the workforce again and enjoy it once more.  Doing what though?  That thought permeates my mind.  What do I do?  I cannot afford to take a year off, so as wonderful as that sounds, it won’t happen.   If I do leave my current job they would need at least a 6 months notice, since I’m the wearer of all hats and it’s a small business, two weeks would just not be sufficient.

I have been playing the lottery on a more regular basis, since I see that as my only way out.

Back to my original thought…I don’t seem to have anything that I am really passionate about and I find myself asking…is that okay?  Have I listened to too many self-help books, uplifting stories, go live your dream, be successful, make a plan?  Have I been so uplifted and inspired that it has depressed me because I’m not living up to my (their) expectations?  I truly think so.

I shall continue to ponder this and figure out my next steps.  I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, please, tell me…are you passionate about something?  If so, are you doing what you are passionate about?

Win ~ Win

Do you want to know a secret?  If you’re looking for a win ~ win situation, I have one for you.

Today I went grocery shopping, as I entered the checkout line a gentleman walked in line behind me.  I was next, but all he had were three bouquets of flowers.  I asked him if he would like to go ahead of me and he said oh thank you that is very kind of you, I said you’re welcome.

When the cashier rang up the total and told him the amount, he said these are on sale, two for $12, she asked do you have your card (my grocery store has it’s own card that gives you discounts off items).  Oh, you need your card? he asked, at that moment I handed the cashier mine, they let you do that.  Once more the man looked at me and said wow, again, thank you very much, you are so kind.  These days I turn into a blubbering soul easily because of menopause and as I’m choking back the tears, every fiber of my being was saying get a grip! don’t start crying!  I looked him right in the eyes (I say this because I am practicing to look at people when I speak with them rather than avert my eyes) and said you are most welcome, besides who can resist a man with flowers!  The lady behind me laughed.

He said it was his mother’s 91st birthday.  Now I’m really trying not to cry and say, oh wow, wish her a very happy birthday (like she knows me or something).  He said he would.

Win~Win

As he finished his transaction he turned once more to me and said thank you again for your kindness and I wish you a wonderful day!  Well that was all I needed to hear, I barely said thank you without my voice cracking.  As I was bagging my groceries, my nose was running so much and I had no tissues, just my hand.  I felt like all eyes could see my nose running down my face and all over my hands.  The stress of it all brought on one of my beloved hot flashes, which just made my nose run even more freely.  I could not bag my groceries fast enough!!

I left there with the biggest smile on my face though…I felt so elated that I had made someone’s day!  So here’s the win ~ win, do something nice for someone else, no matter how small the gesture, and boy oh boy will you feel like a million bucks!  You will probably derive more joy out of what you did for them than the person receiving your generosity.

So I say, let’s all be more selfish by doing for others, we’ll feel so pleased, proud and happy with ourselves.

Is there anything I can do for you?  😉
