On my drive to work I was overcome by that glorious odor of Pepe Le Pew!!  aka Skunk.

Bonjour Mon Amour!!

The skunk gets a bum rap.  😉  So today I’ve decided to celebrate the Skunk and share with you what the symbolism of the Skunk is.  Perhaps next time we will have a better appreciation of the odorous little guy.

“A Few Symbolic Meanings of the Skunk

  • Defense
  • Prudence
  • Protection
  • Confidence
  • Awareness
  • Pacification
  • Effectiveness
  • Good judgement

We would all do well to take this animal symbolism from the skunk: Do no harm. Indeed, as a totem animal, the skunk asks us to defend ourselves effectively, without causing further conflict.

Interestingly, the skunk would prefer to be even less assertive. You see, it takes over a week to reproduce its stinky juices after using them (their glands are only good for about 4 sprays). Ergo, the skunk is 100% sure it must spray before doing so as this defense tool is a commodity in the wild – not to be wasted on false alarms.

In recognizing this, we see the skunk is the ultimate pacifist, and by adopting its peace-loving ways we may obtain the carefree lifestyle this creature enjoys.

Carefree indeed, the skunk has very few predators because most of the animal kingdom recognize its tell-tale markings and know from wildlife scuttlebutt the skunk is not to be fooled with.  As such, the skunk goes about its business with aplomb, and has an innocent quality that few wild creatures have the luxury of exhibiting.

Other Animal Symbolism Keywords for the Skunk

  • Introspection
  • Innocence
  • Assurance
  • Patience
  • Silence
  • Peace

Those with the skunk as their animal totem are naturally buoyant. They go through life with a calm assurance, and exude a peaceful energy that is extremely attractive to others.

Call upon the spirit of the skunk when you need quality judgment in a situation – particularly if you’re in a stressful state, or someone is pushing your buttons. The skunk will ease you out of the situation with deft and diplomacy.

The skunk can also help calm jangled nerves, and help to center ourselves into a quiet, peaceful state.

The skunk is very effective when calming small children too. Give it a try. Ask the skunk for assistance with your fussy little ones.

The skunk is happy to heed your call for help.  Just remember to respect the skunk and express your thanks for the guidance and assistance.”

See a penny pick it up…all day long you’ll have good luck!!  Right?  How about, you should only pick it up if it’s heads-up, have you heard that too?  Well as it turns out The Penny means a whole lot more.

Tuesday while I was at the post office I saw a penny on the ground and it was heads-up.  Whenever I see a penny on the ground I think of the scene from the movie Grease when Jan finds the penny and says,

See a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck.

Those words always go through my head, in the tone that she says them too.  What’s interesting is, I have been thinking of writing a post about The Penny and all the various quotes about pennies, for a couple of weeks.  As many of you know, last Sunday I posted my last Our Daily Grateful Post, well 2 days later I found the penny.  Why is that interesting you ask, you did ask didn’t you?  Well you know me…I looked up its symbolism and here’s what I found:

“Consider the penny as a symbol of beginnings as it holds the vibration of number One.

The meaning of One primarily deals with strong will, positivity, pure energy.  The number One reflects new beginnings, and purity. The symbolic meaning of the penny (number One) is further clarified when we understand that One represents both kinds of action, physical and mental.

This combined with the One’s urgency for new beginnings, we intuit number One to mean it is time to exert our natural forces, take action, and start a new venture. Numeral One gives us encouragement that our actions will be rewarded in kind.

Appropriate to the theme of new beginnings, we see Abraham Lincoln depicted on this currency.  This is symbolic of founding fathers concept, and deals with foundational thoughts & constructs.  Pulled more deeply in the meaning, we can say that seeing pennies (particularly heads-up) is a message for us to re-evaluate our founding beliefs.  We may ask ourselves what core beliefs do we have, and are they serving us appropriately?

Copper also holds a symbolic resonance (at least when they were primarily made of copper prior to 1982) with the astrological signs of Sagittarius and Taurus – you can investigate the attributes of these signs for further symbolism here.

Copper is also considered a solar emblem, and corresponds with the radiant features of the sun.  This combined with a myriad of other meanings, the symbolic meaning of the penny deals with bright ideas, fresh perspectives, and incorporating these new thoughts with our existing framework.  By combining the old with the new we find our lives expanded and new directions to our path.”

Isn’t that so cool!!

I know it’s also said that pennies are from loved ones in heaven, so maybe one of my loved ones placed it there, right outside my car door, to find.  Funny I did not see it when I got out of my car, it was when I was coming back to my car that I noticed it.  I would have had to practically step on it to get into my car, guess they wanted to be sure I found it.  Thank you!

This is the penny I found, heads-up

I was having withdrawals all week long, having gone cold turkey from my daily posts.  What I missed most was talking with you, I missed you so much!!

I did enjoy having my evenings free to relax, practice my piano and catch up on your posts.

After reading this symbolism of the penny, it gave me goosebumps and also reassured me that I have made the right decision, that it is time to move forward with my newest adventures.  One of those is learning to play my piano so I can create music to the songs I write and further my music career with Miri (Miriam Blaker of Out an’ About) and our CD.

I’m practicing a song I wrote originally title “Dear Universe”, now called “All is Well”, also in the background is where I sit to watch the birds eat & squirrels play.

Life’s all about making decisions, isn’t it?  Wondering if we make the right ones, looking for the right answer, how will we know for sure?

The next time you see a penny maybe the Universe, or a loved one, is sending you a message of reassurance!!  Are you about to embark on a new adventure, turning down a new path, trying to make a decision about something?  Remember this, there are no wrong paths.  We are meant to go where we go.

Penny for your thoughts?!  😉

With love and appreciation,

My cellphone has be splitting apart for several months now.  Initially the glass was separating from the rest of the phone but soon the entire phone was spreading open.  You could see the inside of the phone.  This past week it deteriorated rapidly!

I thought, hmmm this can’t be good!

Yesterday I decided it was time for a new one.  It was important that I was able to keep my text messages, so I contacted the store ahead of time to make sure the messages would transfer to the new phone.  The gentleman at the store said they would not transfer over.  Uh oh!  When we actually did do the transfer of information we were barely able transfer anything, the phone was in such poor condition it kept giving error messages.

After some googleing, I found a fantastic app called SMSBackup+ and the How-To Geek explained what to do.  It was so simple.  I just followed his instructions and copied all 9875 text messages, (I know, I know) from my phone to my gmail account.  It set up a folder called SMS and put all the text messages in it.  I can even print them nice and pretty, if need be.

I asked the tech at the store what I should do with my old phone.  He facetiously suggested that I keep it in the freezer (he said he was almost not kidding) or some place cold until I was sure about keeping my new phone, as my old phone could catch on fire.  He said I have a swollen battery.

Apparently if you charge the phone too much this can happen.  I would keep my phone plugged in all night charging and at work I would keep it plugged in all day.  I thought it was great that my phone was always charged, NOT.  He said it’s okay to keep it charging all night, but to let the battery drain down during the day.  What I was doing actually ruined my phone.  So if any of you are doing the same, stop!

What’s scary is, I listen to YouTube every night and my cellphone lies next to me by my pillow.  Imagine if it had caught on fire.  Wow!

So this is what a phone with a swollen battery looks like:

Apparently this is not good!!!  😉

In all seriousness, please be careful with your phones and fire.

Oh, and I’ll be keeping my new phone!!

Ever wonder what the secret is to being happy?  Why some people are so upbeat and positive?  Ever wish that could be you?

The secret is they decide to be happy.  It’s a choice we all have at the start of each day.  We all have issues that we have to deal with, it’s the manner in which we choose to deal with them that matters.  Decide to take a positive approach.

The fastest way to kick start HAPPINESS is to be of service to others.  Helping one another, in my opinion, is the most rewarding experience.  One that will leave you feeling happy, proud, joyful and wanting to help more.

It doesn’t have to be anything grandiose, the smallest hand can be the biggest help.

It can be as slight as a smile, a compliment, a thank you.

Be That Person

Be a happy you today!!

Dreams.  What are they?  What are yours?  Have you had any come true?dreams1

Only those dreams that you truly desire will you make come true and that’s okay.  In fact, that’s the way it should be.  Don’t waste your time, effort and energy on anything other than your desires.

You’ll know what to do when the time comes to live your dream.  Your inner self will guide you in the proper direction, listen to your gut, your intuition, it’s always right.

Don’t let life pass you by because you are too afraid.  You have the courage and the willpower, you do!

You can have many dreams you would like to realize or you could have just one.  Either way, it’s your choice.  Your dreams can be anything, they do not need be a physical goal.  For example, I dream of living more in the present rather than always thinking about the past or the future.  If I’m always thinking about yesterday or tomorrow, I’m not enjoying today.  What a shame!  So that’s a dream I am working on.

Another dream of mine is to control my thoughts and not let my thoughts control me.  Oh you might think this is an easy one, but seconds after I catch myself being ruled by my thoughts and I stop it, I’m being ruled by them again!!  UGH!

My point is, we always hear people say (including me – see above) make your dreams a reality or you can live your dreams, so I decided to define dreams.  At least what I’ve decided the definition of dreams is for me.  Dreams are what the heart desires.

What’s your definition?
